Week 1 Box Scores (Spring 2025)

The MilkMob vs Team Pie PIe

1st Period:
MILK (1-0) – Sean Lewin (1) (assisted by Jordan) (12:13)
2nd Period:
PIE (1-1) – Matt Bramson (1) (assisted by Steph) (5:32)
PIE (2-1) – Danilo (1) (assisted by Russo) (7:53)
PIE (3-1) – Jacob Berkowitz (1) (assisted by Ben Wald) (8:32)
PIE (4-1) – Cliff (1) (assisted by Matt Bramson) (10:02)

GAME NOTES:
After falling behind 1-0 late in the 1st period, Team Pie Pie picks up their first win in franchise history on the back of a 4:30 stretch in the 2nd period where they buried four goals. A super impressive debut performance. Somewhere the ghost of that fat diabetic cat is smiling down and probably asking for more food. Meanwhile MilkMob looked impressive throughout the game, except for that one five minute stretch, and probably just needs a little more cowbell.

THREE STARS OF THE GAME:
3rd – Danilo (GWG)
2nd – Sophia (W, 1 GA)
1st – Matt Bramson (1G, 1A)

Pizza Rats vs Talking Reds

3rd Period:
RED (1-0) – Tarnow (1) (assisted by Nate) (8:21)

GAME NOTES:
A goalie duel for the ages as Jeff Green, perhaps D5’s most accomplished goalie of all time, faces off against Campbell who is probably the GOAT. Although I didn’t get to watch much of it because I was busy chairing the light moving committee, this game remained 0-0 until the end of the 3rd when red got a rebound past Jeff to score the only goal of the game…Amit told me he wasn’t playing til late April, his leg was destroyed and he gained like 200 pounds in DC. All things considered, he looked pretty damn good in this one…Maddy has written into league offices to inform us that her name is officially spelled Maddy with a “y” and not Maddie with an “ie.” Somehow no one on the draft call knew the answer to this one, but the mystery is now solved and her name will be spelled correctly forevermore, unless we want to rattle her.

THREE STARS OF THE GAME:
3rd – Jeff Green (1 GA)
2nd – Tarnow (GWG)
1st – Campbell (W, SO)

Beatin’ Meat vs Team Pie Pie

PIE (1-0) – James Dziwura (1) (assisted by Matt Bramson) (6:55)
2nd Period:
MEAT (1-1) – Julie (1) (assisted by Ryan Levine) (3:23)
3rd Period:
PIE (2-1) – Jo Robin (1) (assisted by Matt Bramson) (12:20)
MEAT (1-1) – Ryan Levine (1) (assisted by Lucas) (12:39)
Shootout Winner By Danilo

GAME NOTES:
The game of the night between two championship contenders, orange thought they had the game in regulation after Jo scored with just 1:40 left. Maroon immediately called a timeout and drew up something on the bench that must have been downright incredibly because they came out and scored immediately. In OT a shocking act of violence from Sarah against Simon that makes me wonder which of them is sleeping on the couch this week led to a two minute orange PP, but maroon killed it off and we went to a five round shootout. Sophia stopped five of five meat beatin’ shooters, a pretty incredible feat, and although Jo Robin probably scored on his first attempt which was called no goal, Danilo sent orange fans and cat lovers home happy with a goal in the 5th round. A 3-2 win for Team Pie Pie as they start their season 2-0. Meow indeed.

THREE STARS OF THE GAME:
3rd – Jo Robin (1G)
2nd – Ryan (1G, 1A)
1st – Sophia (W, 2 GA)

Mace Windu vs My Cup Size Is Stanley

MACE (3-0) – Alex Merone (2) (assisted by Tom Fitz) (12:20)
MACE (4-0) – Chris Fullam (1) (assisted by Kevin Aylesworth) (13:59)
2nd Period:
CUP (1-4) – Mike Sanchick (1) (assisted by Daniel Best) (3:10)
MACE (5-1) – Abe Yesget (1) (unassisted) (6:59)
3rd Period:
CUP (2-5) – Mike Sanchick (2) (assisted by Daniel Best) (3:00)
MACE (6-2) – Alex Merone (3) (unassisted) (9:27)
MACE (7-2) – Jason Reape (1) (EN) (unassisted) (12:01)

GAME NOTES:
Purple was projected by the league sportsbook to win this game at odds of -160, but the beatdown that took place was pretty shocking. Mace jumped out to a 1-0 lead on the first shift and led 4-0 by the end of the 1st period. Cup Size was able to steady the ship at the intermission and stop the bleeding, but sub goalie Jeff Green prevented them from getting any closer than 3 goals. A very impressive start for purple as they open the season with a 7-2 win…Mace Windu got a PP late in the 1st and I must confess to being absolutely shocked that Milstein had himself out there. I was even more shocked when, as I was still processing this first fact, he proceeded to immediately score. Something was in the air for purple on Tuesday, and it wasn’t just The Force…meanwhile Mikey has $170 in preseason prop bet tickets that hold a current cashout value of about $65. I’m sure Jenn has mixed feelings on that one.

THREE STARS OF THE GAME:
3rd – Tom Fitz (2A)
2nd – Mike Sanchick (2G)
1st – Alex Merone (3G)

Silver Stallions vs Mace Windu

1st Period:
MACE (1-0) – Tom Fitz (1) (assisted by Abe) (2:44)
MACE (2-0) – Chris Fullam (2) (assisted by Mike Milstein) (12:02)
MACE (3-0) – Mike Milstein (2) (unassisted) (13:05)
3rd Period:
STA (1-3) – Ken (1) (unassisted) (1:14)
STA (2-3) – Mike Pigozzi (1) (PP) (assisted by Ken) (3:04)

GAME NOTES:
The last game of the evening featured purple once again jumping out to a huge 1st period lead and this was possibly heading into blowout territory, with Dello gleefully holding onto his Mace -2.0 ticket. But Silver would steady the ship and mount a furious rally in the 3rd period with two goals in the first 3:04, pulling within one goal and keeping the pressure on the entire frame. I actually thought they were for sure going to tie it up, but purple held it together in front of Jeff and silver just couldn’t quite get that bounce they needed. A tight 3-2 win in the battle of new franchises, both of whom looked pretty good on night one of the 2025 season.

THREE STARS OF THE GAME:
3rd – Tom Fitz (1G)
2nd – Ken (1G, 1A)
1st – Mike Milstein (GWG, A)
