Week 3 Box Scores (Fall 2024)

Tropic Thunder vs The Sharks

2nd Period:
TROP (1-0) – Will Carter (1) (assisted by Simon) (0:45)

GAME NOTES: Goalies were sensational in this one and the gameplay was super even. The difference: each team got one PP and Purple went 0/1 while camo converted on their lone opportunity, then held on for a rare 1-0 win. I have to go back into the records to see if Hicks has ever been involved in a 1-0 game as anything other than a spectator/gambler. Knowing him, he def took the over.

THREE STARS OF THE GAME:
3rd – Max (1 GA)
2nd – Will Carter (GWG)
1st – Jeff Green (W, SO)

Flickin’ Bean vs Tropic Thunder

1st Period:
TROP (1-0) – Kyle Wynn (1) (assisted by Josh Wagner) (6:47)
2nd Period:
TROP (2-0) – Pete Slife (1) (assisted by Hicks) (3:56)
BEAN (1-2) – Ian (1) (assisted by Ryan Levine) (10:37)
3rd Period:
TROP (3-1) – Hicks (2) (assisted by Will Carter) (5:07)
BEAN (2-3) – Brian Bell (1) (assisted by Ryan Levine) (6:39)

GAME NOTES: Tropic Thunder turned around after their 1-0 win for the backend of a doubleheader against a Bean squad opening up their title defense season. Camo kept their momentum going with another skin-of-their-teeth one goal win that vaulted them up from the lower class of the standings to the upper-middle area. Bean was missing Fitz and Joe in this one but still had plenty of chances to tie it up. Hicks told me several days before the draft that he was planning on taking Jeff in round 1. I guess this is why.

THREE STARS OF THE GAME:
3rd – Ryan (2A)
2nd – Jeff (W, 2 GA)
1st – Hicks (GWG)

The Grassholes vs The Sharks

1st Period:
GRH (1-0) – Ryann (2) (assisted by Mike Wright) (11:02)
2nd Period:
SHA (1-1) – Kev (3) (PP) (unassisted) (0:13)
SHA (2-1) – Alex Merone (1) (assisted by Jack) (5:47)
GRH (2-2) – Greg Davis (1) (assisted by Jake Kolenberg) (7:57)
3rd Period:
GRH (3-2) – Mike Stern (2) (assisted by Alex Horton) (5:39)
SHA (3-3) – Kev (4) (unassisted) (6:25)
GRH (4-3) – Mike Stern (3) (assisted by Rockoff) (12:57)

GAME NOTES: This was a back-and-forth game between the highly rated before the season but middle of the standings Sharks and the middle rated before the season but top of the standings Grassholes. Although purple led midway through the 2nd and had it tied up midway through 3rd, a Stern goal with 1:03 left put green ahead for good. 4-3 Grass as they continued their undefeated start to the season.

THREE STARS OF THE GAME:
3rd – Ryann (1G)
2nd – Kev (2G)
1st – Mike Stern (2G)

Halloweenies vs Melrose Home

1st Period:
HWN (1-0) – Scott Storer (1) (assisted by Joe Magosin) (0:40)
HWN (2-0) – Matt Branson (1) (assisted by Joe Magosin) (1:10)
HWN (3-0) – Alan (1) (assisted by Matt Branson) (11:38)
MRH (1-3) – James Dziwura (3) (assisted by Adam Herman) (13:07)
3rd Period:
HWN (4-1) – Tom White (1) (assisted by Sarah Hoffman) (4:37)
MRH (2-4) – Julie (1) (assisted by Wes) (10:22)

GAME NOTES: This game looked like it was heading to route city in the first 1:10 as the Halloweenies buried two quick ones. A badly shorthanded Melrose steadied the ship though led by a vintage Zisser performance. It wasn’t enough to come back for the W because they only scored two goals, but it did prevent orange from covering the spread which might have helped someone. Either way, the result was a 4-2 season opening win for orange and some concerns about James’ injury, although he’ll probably keep playing through it because he’s a sicko.

THREE STARS OF THE GAME:
3rd – James Dziwura (1G)
2nd – Scott Storer (1G)
1st – Joe Magosin (1G, 1A)

Merry Pranksters vs Flickin’ Bean

1st Period:
PRK (1-0) – Ari Fuchs (1) (unassisted) (1:11)
PRK (2-0) – Maddy (2) (assisted by Yehuda) (4:02)
BEAN (1-2) – Ryan Levine (1) (unassisted) (9:49)
PRK (3-1) – Justin Sherbal (1) (assisted by Ben Wald) (11:22)
2nd Period:
BEAN (2-3) – Jack Murphy (1) (assisted by Cherie) (3:05)
PRK (4-2) – Sam Gelman (6) (assisted by Ari) (7:08)
3rd Period:
BEAN (3-4) – Jack Murphy (2) (assisted by Ryan) (12:07)
BEAN (4-4) – Ian (2) (assisted by Ryan) (13:15)
Overtime:
PRK (5-4) – Sam Gelman (7) (assisted by Maddy) (3:40)

GAME NOTES:  A surprisingly high scoring game as Bean came back from a 4-2 deficit with two minutes left, scoring two goals in 1:08 to tie it up. The Pranksters thought they had retaken the lead with just seconds left in regulation, but the goal was waved off after video review when refs determined that Pete was pushed into his goalie, preventing him from making the save for a rare goalie interference wave-off. Once we got to OT, it didn’t really matter anyways as Gelman buried a shot from the blueline for his league leading 7th of the season to break the Pranksters’ losing streak and send the Bean to 0-2.

THREE STARS OF THE GAME:
3rd – Ari Fuchs (1G, 1A)
2nd – Ryan Levine (1G, 2A)
1st – Sam Gelman (2G)

Red Sabbath vs Halloweenies

2nd Period:
HWN (1-0) – Scott Storer (2) (unassisted) (2:43)
3rd Period:
RED (1-1) – Jason Reape (1) (assisted by Alex Rickard) (1:48)
HWN (2-1) – Matt Branson (2) (assisted by Scott Storer) (3:57)
RED (2-2) – Tarnow (2) (assisted by Jason Reape) (6:50)
HWN (3-2) – Joe Magosin (1) (assisted by Sarah Hoffman) (13:13)

GAME NOTES: Orange was heavily favored before this game but it ended up being closer than anyone could have expected. The Halloweenies boasted superior firepower but red’s depth proved to be the equalizer as they actually controlled long stretches of the game. It was a goalie clinic on both sides but the difference proved to be a great individual effort from Joe to spring for the partial breakaway and bury his own rebound for the 3-2 win, sending the Halloweenies and their fans/bettors home happy on opening night.

THREE STARS OF THE GAME:
3rd – Jason Reape (1G, 1A)
2nd – Matt McCracken (W, 2 GA)
1st – Joe Magosin (GWG)
