Under 6.0 (-120)
Public Perception:

Notes: The public is exactly split on this one, as they should be. Both teams had the exact same goal differential and were bottom two in goals scored and in goals against. White had a nice little two game win streak midseason while pink beat purple twice and had a bunch of games they lost by razor thin margins, often due to penalties. With full rosters I was all set to make this a coinflip or even give pink a slight edge due to their speed, but turns out they will be missing Jason and Source with Rockoff a GTD depending on if his flight from Greece gets in on time, which seems unlikely judging from what I’ve seen from the airline industry lately. Meanwhile the Blancs will only be missing one player and that player is not McCauley who, according to Simon, is “taking Advil as we speak.” He might need something a little stronger than that if white plays all three games, as I have been assured they will, but for game one he should be more than ready to go and I think that’s enough to put them over the top. Blancs to win.

Public Perception:

Notes: The Narwhals are being heavily favored by the public but I am going the other way on this one. Annie being out is a massive loss for the Narwhals and even though Colleen will be a quality playoff replacement, it’s not the same. Plus Kev is also out while MelRose, for the first time since maybe Week 4, have a full roster coming in including Wes. Purple will have the services of Annie’s sister, Cassidy, in town for the week and given the OK to sub by Mel after a somewhat confusing situation where she thought that it was being requested by Jack that Cassidy sub for her team, which would just be weird.

Of course when I informed Jack he was mostly just upset he hadn’t thought of it before.

It was a great season for purple in their title defense and Tom’s been a revelation and an easy 1st rounder next season, but I think the losses of Annie and Kev in this one prove too significant for them to overcome. MelRose to win and advance to face the Hippos.

Chili Peppers (-225)
Over 6.0 (-120)

Public Perception:

Notes: Chili Peppers are being rated as overwhelming favorites in this one and for good reason. They finished the season hot as Sam made the last 7 games and climbed up to 5th which gives them a shot at the play-in winner. If pink wins that play-in, Jason might be able to come back in time for this one. I’m not sure the opponent really matters though – white’s been playing well as a team and pink has loads of offensive talent, but even with some key absences the Chili Peppers are on another level. They’ll have Jess subbing in for KG and whichever goalie loses the play-in game jumping in net. I doubt any of it matters. Honestly I could see a Blancs victory built on defense and a great goaltending performance, but that doesn’t mean I’m bold enough to actually bet on it. Red to win and advance.

Public Perception:

Notes: The Hippos wrapped up the season with 7 wins in a row but I think Hicks is going to be sad if he doesn’t get to face Jack in their 3rd matchup of the season. Like I mentioned earlier, I think it’s going to be MelRose due to a full lineup but whether they can gel after having not all played together all season and what challenges that presents in terms of bench management remains to be seen. I think Wes will get his looks and yellow will put a good scare into black but AJ’s been on fire in recent weeks and should earn his early round draft slot here. Hippos to win, but maybe a closer one than you’d expect.

Public Perception:

Notes: Lots of possibilities for this final game. Chili Peppers would arguably be favored in this game with a full roster but a few absences bump them to straight pick ’em range. Super tough game to handicap…the safe bet is on JFC, especially since they are the only team I can guarantee will be playing in this game. So that’s who I’m going with. No one expected orange to be this good (well, except maybe the players on orange and me) but they gave up the least goals this season and I expect the defense to show up tonight. Orange to pull the mini-upset and advance to their second final four in three seasons.

Guest Commentary
Tarnow was a point away from the 100 point club in a game that should have been a mortal lock, but he didn’t hit it. Given subs might change things, when a guy is on a milestone game and doesn’t hit it, you expect revenge and you hammer it to the max in this one. For Chili Peppers’ first game (vs BLNC/RARE) – Tarnow ATG, Sidecar on Tarnow 1st goal scorer AND Tarnow 2+ goals.
