Week 5 Box Scores (Fall 2023)

Red Eyed Peas vs Big Deke Energy

1st Period:
BDE (1-0) – Jay Travers (1) (unassisted) (10:47)
3rd Period:
BDE (2-0) – Mitch (1) (assisted by Joe Magosin) (1:42)
BDE (3-0) – Joe Magosin (2) (assisted by Caitlin) (4:44)
BDE (4-0) – Joe Magosin (3) (assisted by Jay Travers) (6:32)
RED (1-4) – Cole (7) (assisted by Tarnow) (13:52)

GAME NOTES: No one was entirely sure how this game would go but I don’t think anyone had “full on yellow domination” on their bingo card. Some uncharacteristic sloppiness from the 1st place Peas and a fully loaded yellow roster made the 1-0 scoreline going into the 3rd somewhat deceiving before Mitch and Joe blew the game wide open early in the final frame. Result: 4-1 yellow. Boom Boom Pow indeed.

THREE STARS OF THE GAME:
3rd – Mitch (1G)
2nd – Jay Travers (1G, 1A)
1st – Joe Magosin (2G, 1A)

96th Street Bastards vs Shooting Blancs

BST (1-0) – Danny Swersky (3) (assisted by Yehuda) (1:27)
BST (2-0) – Alex Merone (3) (unassisted) (2:00)
BST (3-0) – Yehuda (1) (assisted by Danny Swersky) (4:04)
BLNC (1-3) – Adam Satok (5) (assisted by Brandon Moshensky) (4:55)
BST (4-1) – Jessie (1) (assisted by Dave Zuckerman) (10:17)
BLNC (2-4) – Tom McGuire (6) (assisted by Sarah Hoffman) (13:12)
3rd Period:
BLNC (3-4) – Goulet (1) (unassisted) (1:49)
BLNC (4-4) – Adam Satok (6) (assisted by Kevin Aylesworth) (4:20)
BLNC (5-4) – Tom McGuire (7) (assisted by Kat) (7:57)

GAME NOTES: The Bastards, with a super short lineup, jumped out to a shocking 3-0 lead just four minutes into the game and added a fourth goal before the period was up. Jack assures me he was just trying to give them a false sense of confidence though and the Blancs regrouped and staged a furious rally to improbably win in regulation, a scenario which got as high as +1000 on Caesars. The result was white holding on and just barely escaping a frantic final minute while Bastards moneyline bettors were left wondering why they hate money and why they ever bet on a bunch of bastards. Sorry Ryan (not really sorry).

THREE STARS OF THE GAME:
3rd – Danny Swersky (1G, 1A)
2nd – Tom McGuire (2G)
1st – Adam Satok (2G)

Jewish Golden Calfs vs Big Deke Energy

1st Period:
BDE (1-0) – Ryan Levine (3) (assisted by Shan) (2:31)
BDE (2-0) – Ryan Levine (4) (assisted by Ryann) (7:00)
JGC (1-2) – Minsky (5) (unassisted) (10:38)
BDE (3-1) – Joe Magosin (4) (assisted by Ryann) (12:15)
2nd Period:
BDE (4-1) – Mitch (2) (assisted by Dom) (6:40)
JGC (2-4) – Minsky (6) (assisted by Reid) (9:15)
3rd Period:
BDE (5-2) – Ryann (1) (unassisted) (6:38)

GAME NOTES: This game will forever be remembered for one of the shadiest moves in league history as Ryan Levine went out for his first shift legitimately wearing the color of the other team, scored a goal as the opposing goalie had no idea what was going on, then slyly tried to remove the garment during the post-goal celebration when the other team was roasting him. The shadiness is legitimately off the charts to the point that Jack is jealous and trying to find a way to get this man on purple. To be fair, I did tell the Calfs that as retribution they had a free pass to, at any point in the game, send a player out wearing yellow for one shift. They declined to do so, much to their detriment, as they value integrity over questionable tactics. Unsurprisingly, Jack has zero interest in trading for any of them.

THREE STARS OF THE GAME:
3rd – Ryann (1G, 1A)
2nd – Minsky (2G)
1st – Ryan Levine (2G, Insane Shadiness)

Shooting Blancs vs On Tuesdays We Wear Pink

1st Period:
PNK (1-0) – Ryann (2) (assisted by Mike Wright) (9:21)
2nd Period:
PNK (2-0) – Jo Robin (2) (unassisted) (7:12)
3rd Period:
BLNC (1-2) – Adam Satok (7) (assisted by Brendan Moshensky) (3:00)
PNK (3-1) – Ryann (3) (assisted by Jo Robin) (9:02)
PNK (4-1) – Jo Robin (3) (assisted by Ryann) (10:00)

GAME NOTES: This was expected to be a fairly close game between two championship contenders but somewhat surprisingly pink kind of dominated this one. I suppose they did have a mostly full roster (minus Zisser in for Jeff Green and McNeil who I think now has a child), but they certainly controlled play and when they didn’t Zisser was (mostly) there to bail them out. The result was a 4-1 win that vaults them all the way up to 3rd in the standings despite their first few games being played without Jo Robin. And Jeff Green is supposedly back from Wyoming tomorrow. Who knows where this all could lead, but my money’s on a dirty sex van.

THREE STARS OF THE GAME:
3rd – Zisser (W, 1 GA)
2nd – Ryann (1G, 2A)
1st – Jo Robin (2G, 1A)

Bada Bing vs Merry Pranksters

2nd Period:
BING (1-0) – Russo (5) (assisted by Vanessa) (5:58)
BING (2-0) – Russo (6) (assisted by Dave Liang) (6:33)
3rd Period:
PRK (1-2) – Andreas (1) (assisted by Jake Kolenberg) (2:29)
PRK (2-2) – Sam Gelman (11) (unassisted) (4:20)
BING (3-2) – Russo (7) (assisted by Dave Liang) (5:00)
PRK (3-3) – Sonj (1) (assisted by Jake Kolenberg) (6:11)
Overtime:
PRK (4-3) – Sam Gelman (12) (unassisted) (0:10)

GAME NOTES: Russo had one of the most electric shifts we’ve seen all season as he buried two goals in 35 seconds to send his bench and women all around the Upper East Side into hysterics. I offered him half off next season’s dues if he scored a hat trick on the shift but he (somewhat surprisingly) did not stay on the ice for 5 extra minutes as Dave Liang surely would have. That said, while he did complete the hat trick later, the Pranksters would storm back, no doubt somewhat annoyed after losing their past two games by a 15-1 aggregate. Gelman picked up two goals, including the game winner, obviously no assists, but behind a solid game from Cam and Andreas’ first goal of the season (as well as Sonj’s first D5 goal), Pranksters pick up a much needed win to keep their hopes of escaping the play-in matchup very much alive and keep Gelman’s hopes of not offing himself somewhat alive.

THREE STARS OF THE GAME:
3rd – Dave Liang (2A)
2nd – Sam Gelman (2G)
1st – Russo (3G)
