GAME NOTES: Orange was badly shorthanded for this one while the Pranksters somehow fielded a full lineup on the sabbath during Passover despite their top two players being religious. The result was actually closer than you might expect but tie-dye pulled away in the 3rd period en route to a season opening 4-1 win. Mazel tov.

GAME NOTES: Both teams were wildly shorthanded in this one as blue had six players while, with subs, orange had seven (eight once Cherie arrived in the 3rd). Result was the same as the earlier game as orange kept it close but didn’t quite have enough firepower for the win. 5-1 Smurfs with Chad/Andrew each scoring two and Annie scoring a highlight reel snipe on Simon, as is tradition.

GAME NOTES: The grudge match between last season’s co-captains was the game of the night. Clappin’ Cheeks came in as a solid favorite but Team Power Trip played some impressive defense and a PP goal from Mel Brooke, plus insurance from Pelletier made the difference in what I’m sure was a very satisfying win for yellow. Black leopard wouldn’t have to wait too long to get their own satisfaction. NOTE: An earlier version of this piece credited Mel with the 2nd goal and named her 1st star of the game with said goal plus an assist. After frolicking with a local dolphin, Mel texted to inform me the goal should actually be credited Brooke. The D5 media sincerely apologizes for heaping unearned praise on Mel. Rest assured this was never our intention. Our sincerest apologies go out to Brooke who on the one hand now gets credit for the goal but, in the absence of that extra assist, is also hereby demoted to 2nd star.

GAME NOTES: After the previous game there were a few people who wondered if the Cheeks’ goal scoring prowess had been overstated. Consider those fears officially put to bed like Pete after 15 shots of tequila as the Cheeks scored 5 goals in less than 4 minutes late in the 3rd to take this from a semi-beating to a violent assault. 10-1 Cheeks. One more goal and they would have tied the league record for goals in a game. I kind of regret telling them that midway through the 3rd (not really).
