GAME NOTES: A matchup between two of the top teams both in the power rankings and the opening lines came down to the wire as green, after falling down 3-0 after two, rallied with three goals in six minutes to cut the gap to one. Blue was able to just barely hang on for a 4-3 win that vaults them up to 1st in the standings where they will probably remain for a while.

GAME NOTES: Similar to game one, The Smurfs jumped out to a 3-0 lead. Like game 1, they let the green-ish team tighten the gap. And like game one, they hung on, this time with the aid of an empty netter, to seal a 6-3 victory that was a bit closer than the scoreline would indicate.

THREE STARS OF THE GAME:
3rd – Mike Cardello (1G)
2nd – Tom Fitz (1G, 1A)
1st – Chad (2G, 2A)

The Hart Foundation vs Mojo Jojo

1st Period:
MOJO (1-0) – Neil (2) (unassisted) (9:24)
2nd Period:
MOJO (2-0) – Neil (3) (assisted by Danilo) (13:45)
3rd Period:
HRT (1-2) – Miles (1) (unassisted) (7:57)
MOJO (3-1) – Neil (4) (EN) (unassisted) (13:55)

GAME NOTES: This had the look and feel of a playoff game. Jacob subbed in for pink and the only player who could solve him was Neil, who completed a hat trick with a late empty netter. It’s not often you pick up a hatty with all of your teams goals and fail to pick up the #1 star of the game. And he did play tremendously. But the star of the show was undoubtedly Corey who submitted perhaps the finest performance of his D5 career with multiple highlight reel saves, including a late one on Miles with under 3 minutes left that shocked me to my very core. The result was an electric 3-1 win for Mojo Jojo and the league’s first ever Save Of The Week on Instagram. Not too shabby.

THREE STARS OF THE GAME:
3rd – Miles (1G)
2nd – Neil (3G)
1st – Corey (W, 1 GA)

JFC (5-3) – Kev (1) (EN) (unassisted) (12:44)
JFC (6-3) – Cherie (1) (EN) (assisted by Alex Merone) (13:58)

GAME NOTES: This was a fairly evenly matched back-and-forth game but I want to discuss one of the least discussed part of this game that really deserves some recognition. On a late faceoff with his own goalie pulled, Tom Fitz won a faceoff so decisively that it went all the way back into his own goal, the first time in history this has happened in D5. I had to consult the NHL rulebook for who deserves credit for this and it goes to the last player to play the puck. I have to tell you, Zisser came incredibly close to becoming the first goalie in league history to be credited with a goal as he had previously made a save, but from the replay it seemed like Kev was the last to actually play the ball so I’m giving it to him. I’ve watched the replay like 15 times and it still boggles my mind how cleanly he won the draw and how improbable it is that it went into his own net. He probably wasn’t happy about the way it went down that night but as time goes by he will perhaps take solace in the fact that he made history. There were a lot of other moments in this game that deserve mention but I really can’t think of anything else. Oh dear indeed. Also I think Hicks is getting back on the steroids but we’ll cover that next week.

THREE STARS OF THE GAME:
3rd – Sonj (2A)
2nd – Julie (1G)
1st – Alex Merone (1G, 3A)
