Week 5 Betting Lines (Summer 2018)

Bombay’s A Sham (-110)                     o 8.0 (+110)
Hungry Hippos (-130)                         u 8.0 (-150)

The pick: Both of these teams are looking for their first win of the season.  The good news is, after this week, at least one of them will have it.  Bombay goes into this game without #1 overall pick Zac Ball Hogg, their goaltender Zach Lewis and top supplementary add J Rosen.  They will, however, be enlisting the services of #2 overall pick Campbell who has only given up one goal in each game he’s played so far (note for degenerate gamblers: games played as a sub by goalies will NOT be counted towards their leaderboard stats).  The Hippos will be without the services of Pete, Akhil and Lee but have Brett from the Dark Rainbows coming in to make an appearance along with potentially one other sub.  This game could really go either way; at full strength, Bombay might have the edge, but even the presence of an elite goaltender like Campbell won’t be enough to keep them on top.  Take the Hippos to #trusttheprocess and put up their first victory of the season.

The Varsity Warriors (-140)                              o 7.5 (-105)
The Charging Cheetahs (EVEN)                     u 7.5 (-135)

The pick: The two top teams in the league do battle at 7:30.  In the red corner, a Cheetahs squad which has allowed easily the least goals in the league led by Campbell and an elite defensive unit.  In the green corner, a Warriors team led by the #1 scorer in the league (by far) in Probie.  Your classic irresistible force vs immovable object situation will lead to one hell of a game.  Even if the Cheetahs are able to shut down Probie they’ll have to contend with Derek, Guido, Mike, Charlotte, Julie…this team has firepower, even with Glanzer sitting this one out (hey, he’s got three goals in two games of LI men’s league hockey).  An interesting x-factor in this one will be whether Campbell, playing his second game in a row, will be fatigued going into this one.  He’ll need to be in tip-top shape if his Cheetahs are going to advance.  I think he’ll deliver another quality outing…but alas, it will not be enough to keep his team from dropping their first game of the season.  Warriors with the win; Probie disappoints his fans by only scoring two goals in this game.

My Cup Size Is Stanley (+110)             o 9.0 (-120)
Team Sexy (-130)                                     u 9.0 (-120)The pick: League managers face off in a contest to see who drafted the better team and who can sneak in more last minute rule changes before the opening faceoff.  Jenn’s team is coming off an impressive come-from-behind victory over the Warriors while Team Sexy was in top form in putting up a league record nine goals against the Hippos last week.  Sexy will be without the services of Dave GDR this week, giving Scott Heese the call-up for this pivotal clash.  Avery is a gametime decision, but if he can’t go rumor has it one of the other LBS will step in to take his place.  Everyone else is in for Team Sexy and Team Cup Size will similarly have just about all of their players on hand.  This is a huge game in the standings as these two teams sit just about a game behind from the Warrios and Cheetahs who are playing each other right before.  By night’s end, either team could be in 4th or 2nd, with Team Sexy having the ability to jump all the way to #1 with a win and a decent-margin Cheetahs loss.  At full strength, Sexy is more top-heavy and plays a smarter, quicker game, while Cup Size is deeper, can grind you down and has Ramirez in net.  This has all the makings of a close game, and it really wouldn’t surprise anyone to see either team…but under the bright lights of the Tuesday Night Game, it’s Team Sexy who will earn the W and, by the time I stumble into a cab to eat my wings in peace, a top two seed in the standings.
