Hungry Hippos vs The Varsity Warriors
2nd Period:
HIP (1-0) – Adam Herman (1) (unassisted)
VAR (1-1) – Matt Russo (3) (assisted by Jaclyn)
3rd Period:
VAR (2-1) – Mike Wright (assisted by Matt Russo)
GAME NOTES: After a week that featured an 9 goal game, an 11 goal game and a 13 goal game it was refreshing to get back to actual hockey scores…Adam opened the scoring with a top shelf snipe, his first such snipe since wrist surgery two years ago. Vally is still investigating whether the ball crossed the royal road…with his team down 1 and less than 5 seconds left in the period, Matt Russo ripped a shot from half-court which deflected in off the crossbar as time expired…Big Mike put his team ahead midway through the third and it was a classic scramble drill for green from there, but they were able to hang on for their first win of the season…Charlotte has been drinking for over 10 days straight but made it out for some much needed detoxing…the Hippos almost tied the game on a Hicks/Roberts 2 on 1 late, but the ball barely sailed over the crossbar, lucky for green…who would have thought, 2/3 of the way through the season, Probie would be 3rd on the Warriors in scoring. Mid-round pick Matt Russo has been pacing the team and, with two points this week, is now #8 in the scoring race. I’m sure Ben doesn’t mind as long as his team keeps winning…with the win, the Warriors are able to gain ground on Cup Size and the Parrots, neither of whom got a regulation win this week. The Hippos drop to a tie for third, although they still have a game in hand on all of the teams in front of them (and not just any game in hand, but one in which they are already leading 3-0).

Cleveland Browns vs The Charging Cheetahs

CHA (1-0) – Matt Riegler (2) (assisted by Seth)
CLE (1-1) – Julie Katz (2) (assisted by Luke Sellick)
3rd Period:
CLE (2-1) – Julie Katz (3) (assisted by Luke Sellick)
CLE (3-1) – Jake K (1) (assisted by Mike Yetter)
CLE (4-1) – Mike Yetter (5) (assisted by Luke Sellick)
GAME NOTES: The Julie-Luke-Yetter line continues to be the most productive in the league, with Luke and Yetter currently sitting at 1 and 2 in the scoring race…Julie picked up a sweet tip-in goal as time expired in the first, then roofed a wicked backhander early in the third…Luke continued his torrid pace with three more points whle Yetter had a goal and an assist…Riegler scored his second goal in two games in a losing effort…Tim K only gave up one goal yet again and just barely edged ahead of Barch in the goaltending race…the Cleveland Browns have yet to lose a game in which Rich Glanzer did not play…with the win, they stay in first place by virtue of the wins tiebreaker. After sweeping their home-and-home with the Cheetahs they’ll return home to FirstEnergy Stadium next week where they’ll take on a feisty Parrots squad in the primetime game.

My Cup Size Is Stanley vs Purple Parrots
1st Period:
CUP (1-0) – Gene (2) (assisted by Anton)
2nd Period:
PAR (1-1) – Morgen (1) (assisted by Hogg)
Shootout winner by Tarzan
GAME NOTES: Two teams making a surge in recent weeks faced off for the second time this season (the Parrots won the first meeting 5-3)…Gene took a sweet feed from his buddy Anton and buried a wrister past Campbell for the opening tally. Video replay showed the stick was a bit high on the follow but thankfully there’s no coaches challenge in District Five…Ol’ Pal Morgie, one of last season’s top female scorers, tied the game for the Parrots off a feed from Hogg…the teams then traded disallowed goals as Cro waved one off because it wasn’t conclusively past the line by the time he got there, and a second goal was waved off due to the net being off…the less that can be said about the overtime in this one, the better as things got super heated in the extra session. Please don’t do that anymore…after Henry scored on the Parrots’ opening shootout attempt and JRo hit the post, it looked like the Parrots were in good shape. Cup Size was able to come back, however, on the strength of two classic Dave GDR breakaway poke checks and two goals five-hole from Cherie and Tarzan, giving them their third win in a row…the Parrots become the first team in league history to have a shootout win and shootout loss in the same season, let alone in back-to-back weeks…despite a nightmarish start to the season where they were shut out in their first two games, Cup Size is now only two points back of 3rd place and will face Team Sexy in a home-and-home the next two weeks. The Parrots are tied with Ball That for 6th and will face the first place Cleveland Browns next week.

Team Sexy vs Ball That
2nd Period:
SEX (1-0) – Mike Marian (3) (assisted by AFrey)
SEX (2-0) – Avery (6) (assisted by Ines)
SEX (3-0) – Tommy (1) (assisted by DeMarco)
3rd Period:
BAL (1-3) – Jeff (5) (assisted by Alexa)
BAL (2-3) – Miles (5) (assisted by Jeff)
GAME NOTES: The primetime game was fast-paced with Sexy barely hanging on for the win…Mike Marian opened the scoring on a rebound with a nifty hop over the goalie…Avery picked up his league leading (tied with Luke) 6th goal of the season before Tommy and DeMarco executed a sweet give-and-go. All three goals came in a four minute span of the second period to give Sexy a 3-0 lead…Ball That controlled possession in the third as Jeff picked up a goal and an assist, becoming the first player to receive the first star of the game in a losing effort…Campbell was stellar in relief of Barch, stoning Miles on a breakaway and turning away a host of shots that could have turned the tide…Alexa picked up her second assist in two weeks, not counting last week’s game which was postponed…Avery and Jeff are tied for third in scoring with 9 points in 4 games (Avery has the goals tiebreaker), but both will have to do quite a bit of work to catch Luke. Or, they can just book him for a Tuesday night gig, although some would argue the city of Cleveland has been through enough…with the win, Sexy keeps pace in the race for the President’s Trophy. They’ll head out to Cup Size Stadium for the first of a home-and-home next week, while Ball That will take on The Varsity Warriors, fresh off their first victory of the season.
