HAP (1-1) – Danny Swersky (1) (assisted by Zac Hogg) (11:02)
3rd Period:
HAP (2-1) – DRo (1) (assisted by Zac Hogg) (5:00)
GSH (2-2) – Probie (1) (unassisted) (11:29)
Shootout winner by Danilo

GAME NOTES: Ball hockey legend Scott Metz got the scoring started just 2:28 into the first period when he used the defender as a screen and buried a shot in the tightest of windows between Casca’s arm and body…Swersky, a big ticket preseason acquisition for the big market Hippos, tied the game at 1 with a shot from the opposite circle late in the 2nd period…DRo put the Hippos ahead with a point blast with eight minutes left and it looked like the Hippos would hang on for the win, but Probie took a pass from Danilo in front with 1:31 left and tied the game to send it to OT…after both goalies put on a show in OT we went to the longest shootout in league history, surpassing the mark previously established the previous week. We were really hoping to have games run on time this week. Instead we went to an 11 round shootout. After Hogg and Danilo scored matching goals in round 2, there were no goals until we started repeating shooters again in round 11 and Danilo put us out of our misery with a deke that kept his team undefeated.

THREE STARS OF THE GAME:
3rd – Probie (GTG)
2nd – Zac Hogg (2A)
1st – Danilo (2 Shootout Goals)

The Charging Cheetahs vs Backdoor Bandits

1st Period:
BDB (1-0) – Guido (2) (unassisted) (1:01)
BDB (2-0) – Austin (2) (assisted by Caitlin) (12:28)
2nd Period:
CHA (1-2) – Nate (1) (assisted by Fleming) (11:02)
3rd Period:
BDB (3-1) – Caitlin (1) (assisted by Austin) (6:29)
CHA (2-3) – Mike T (4) (assisted by Sully) (10:26)
CHA (3-3) – Nate (2) (assisted by Fleming) (12:50)
Overtime:
CHA (4-3) – Nate (3) (assisted by Sully) (11:02)

GAME NOTES: Guido got the scoring started off a fluky Cheetahs turnover which he was all too happy to bury…after Austin extended the lead to 2-0 with 32 seconds left in the period, “Nasty” Nate Trannel cut the deficit in half to 2-1 going into the third period…Caitlin scored her first goal of the season off a sweet feed from Austin and it looked like the Bandits would hold on for the victory. However the Cheetahs rallied with two goals in the final three minutes to force overtime. Overtime, as usual, featured a ton of action and scoring chances for both sides before Nasty Nate took a feed from Sully and beat Zisser from the top of the faceoff circle just under the glove to give the Cheetahs the win…Jeff Green got the victory in relief of Max and was a beast in overtime. He also, as you may have heard, lives in a van down by the river…Jo played her first game since a late season foot injury in the summer, logging big minutes on defense and lulling everyone into a false sense of security in asking them to take it easy on her…the Cheetahs move to 0-1-0-1 while the Bandits are 0-0-1-1 with one point in two games.

THREE STARS OF THE GAME:
3rd – Sully (2A)
2nd – Caitlin (1G, 1A)
1st – Nate (Hat Trick)

Goonies vs Purple People Eaters

1st Period:
PPE (1-0) – Steve Rys (2) (assisted by Tadpole) (1:19)
GOO (1-1) – Cherie (2) (assisted by Michelle) (10:55)
GOO (2-1) – Maurice (1) (assisted by Matt Reape) (11:30)
2nd Period:
GOO (3-1) – Mia (1) (assisted by Brett) (11:32)
3rd Period:
GOO (4-1) – Cherie (3) (EN) (unassisted) (12:50)

GAME NOTES: The purple franchise got off to an inauspicious start in week 1 but got the jump in this one as Steve Rys scored his 2nd of the season on a great backhander, giving purple the quick lead they needed…sadly, it was all downhill for the state of Minnesota from there as Cherie and Maurice scored two goals in a 35 second span at the end of the 1st to put the Goonies ahead 2-1. Purple did have a number of high-danger chances but Casca was equal to the task in relief of deLacy who needed a week to recover from a week one injury…Mia scored her first of the season on a low shot from the slot that beat Dave and gave the Goonies a 3-1 lead. Cherie would add an empty netter with 10 seconds left to seal white’s first victory of the season…two games in, Rys and Tadpole are the only players on the People Eaters with points. Austin’s bet on himself to outscore Braun is looking better by the day…purple would look to get on the winning track the following week against the Elves (update: it didn’t go great) while the Goonies would look to continue their winning ways against Lee, Derek, Sena and the Stud Puffins.

THREE STARS OF THE GAME:
3rd – Mia (1G)
2nd – Cherie (2G)
1st – Maurice (GWG)

My Cup Size Is Stanley vs Stud Puffins

1st Period:
CUP (1-0) – Adam G (1) (assisted by Mike McCauley) (1:19)
2nd Period:
PUF (1-1) – Sena (1) (assisted by Neil) (1:28)
CUP (2-1) – Matt Stabel (3) (assisted by Mike McCauley) (7:24)
3rd Period:
CUP (3-1) – Mike McCauley (1) (assisted by Gabe) (10:59)
CUP (4-1) – Matt Stabel (4) (EN) (unassisted) (12:02)
PUF (2-4) – Derek (1) (assisted by Meg) (12:35)

GAME NOTES: The final game of the evening featured the preseason favorite Stud Puffins, fresh off a big win over the Cheetahs, taking on Cup Size, fresh off a crazy season opening shootout win over the defending champion Goonies…after some fancy stickhandling by defending Brian Leetch Award winner Mike McCauley, Adam Gotterer was able to bury the rebound to give Cup Size an early 1-0 lead on the first shift of the game…the teams traded goals in the 2nd period, and with Cup Size clinging to a one goal advantage late in the 3rd it was McCauley leading the charge again with his third point of the evening as he buried a slick feed from Gabe to put Cup Size up two goals. Matt Stabel would add an empty netter to put the game out of reach, and Derek would add one to make the score look better for orange. Cup Size held on for the 4-2 victory and with it claimed their share of 1st place in the standings…Jeff Green was the first goalie selected in this year’s draft and he made it count for black with a sterling performance in his first game of the season for his squad…Matt Stabel already has four goals on the year, tying his best ever total set in our inaugural Summer 2018 season. If this team can get some secondary scoring – watch out. Orange would look to rebound the following week against Cherie, Yetter and the Goonies.

THREE STARS OF THE GAME:
3rd – Jeff Green (2 GA)
2nd – Matt Stabel (2G)
1st – Mike McCauley (1G, 2A)
