The Mighty Mensches vs Green Street Hooligans
2nd Period:
GSH (1-0) – Gil (1) (assisted by Amanda) (0:50)
3rd Period:
GSH (2-0) – Gil (2) (unassisted) (5:15)
GAME NOTES: A classic Friday night game as the Hooligans faced off against the Mensches who only had two players from their roster in tow and had a bunch of subs including Annie, Rose, Shan, Rys, Meehan and myself. In the end, the only person who could score in this one was the man who was playing hockey before most of us were born (true story) as Gil’s two goals were the only ones of the contest. The Hooligans locked it down and were able to hang on for a hard fought and much needed 2-0 victory that cuts their losing skid and gets them back into the top 8 in the standings…Amanda tried to take credit for an assist on the second goal and upon seeing that she didn’t touch the ball on video, I almost took away her first assist. Rumor has it Yehuda is dangling her on the trade market for $15 and a pack of smokes. After much consideration, I think I’d rather have the smokes.
THREE STARS OF THE GAME:

2nd – Jacob Geskin (W, SO)

VGK (4-3) – Jason Campbell (3) (assisted by Sanchick) (13:08)
VGK (5-3) – Russo (1) (EN) (unassisted) (13:47)
GAME NOTES: A potential late playoff preview as two of the leagues top teams faced off in the second game of the evening. Once the shock of Ellie’s first goal in almost a full calendar year wore off, this was a tight grinding battle that looked to be basically over as Vegas led 3-1 with less than four minutes left. Undeterred, The Football Club buried two goals in a minute to tie it up and we appeared to be destined for OT. Jason Campbell wanted no part of that as he proceeded to bury a snipe with just 52 seconds left to put Vegas up 4-3 before Russo sealed the win with an empty netter. Result: 5-3 Vegas and afterparty at Marquee. Jeff Green hasn’t had a shirt on since.
THREE STARS OF THE GAME:
3rd – Shan (1G, 1A)
2nd – Russo (1G, 1A)
1st – Jason Campbell (GWG)
The Lavender Llamas vs Merry Pranksters
1st Period:
PRK (1-0) – Derek (7) (assisted by Sam Gelman) (3:55)
PRK (2-0) – Danilo (1) (assisted by Derek) (13:00)
2nd Period:
PRK (3-0) – Sam Gelman (6) (assisted by Manny) (1:55)
PRK (4-0) – Sam Gelman (7) (assisted by Derek) (2:27)
PRK (5-0) – Paul Chester (2) (assisted by Manny) (3:37)
PRK (6-0) – Manny (3) (assisted by Will Gill) (11:26)
3rd Period:
PRK (7-0) – Chris Fullam (2) (assisted by Paul Chester) (11:17)
GAME NOTES: Once Sam’s flight was delayed and he was forced to miss this game, forcing me into action in his place, I felt purple was in big trouble. While the Llamas actually played far better than the score would indicate, a combination of sporadic defensive lapses and an absolutely insane performance by Simon in net led to a rather convincing 7-0 win by the Pranksters. I’ll take solace in the fact that Derek bet me he would get a hat trick and all he got was the opening goal plus two assists. It’s the small victories that really make life so grand.
THREE STARS OF THE GAME:
3rd – Derek (1G, 2A)
2nd – Simon (W, SO)
1st – Sam Gelman (2G, 1A)
Red Zeppelin vs Merry Pranksters
1st Period:
PRK (1-0) – Sam Gelman (8) (assisted by Derek) (0:55)
PRK (2-0) – Sam Gelman (9) (assisted by Chris Fullam) (4:42)
PRK (3-0) – Chris Fullam (3) (assisted by Danilo) (6:27)
RED (1-3) – Carter (6) (assisted by Nate Lerner) (8:34)
2nd Period:
PRK (4-1) – Sam Gelman (10) (assisted by Derek) (6:41)
PRK (5-1) – Sam Gelman (11) (assisted by Derek) (8:27)
GAME NOTES: Red Zeppelin has been ranked #1 in the power rankings every week this season and were favored in this contest but the Pranksters made a statement early, scoring less than a minute in and never taking their foot off the gas. Gelman put up a career high four goals in this game and six on the evening to vault him into 1st in the scoring race and the Pranksters into 1st in the standings. Just a truly unbelievable debut season for tie-dye as they continue to pray that NYC gets hit by a hurricane on August 29.
THREE STARS OF THE GAME:
3rd – Chris Fullam (1G, 1A)
2nd – Derek (3A)
1st – Sam Gelman (4G)
Shooting Blancs vs MelRose Place
1st Period:
MRP (1-0) – Dominic (2) (assisted by Ryan Levine) (4:27)
2nd Period:
MRP (2-0) – Dominic (3) (assisted by Ryan Levine) (12:24)
3rd Period:
BLNC (1-2) – Sabrina (2) (assisted by Scott Metz) (4:33)
GAME NOTES: MelRose took Dominic in the 2nd round of this years draft which caused half the captains to grumble about how they planned on taking him and the other half to mutter “who the hell is that guy?” Most distraught of all was easily Simon who badly wanted his ice hockey buddy on the Blancs. Well, consider this his worst nightmare as Dom put up both of yellow’s goals on the night and, with the help of fellow rookie Ryan Levine and a stellar performance by Max in net, led MelRose to an impressive 2-1 win even with their top pick, Scott Storer, calling out last minute. The win improves yellow’s record to 3-2 on the season and moves them back into the top half of the standings where they will look to make a late season push for top four seeding. The Blancs have had a brutal schedule to start the season but will look to rebound next Friday on their own personal rivalry night as Simon will face his arch rival Yehuda and the guy he called “el bitcho bozo,” Hicks. Scorers box will have plenty of popcorn and whiteclaw for all.
THREE STARS OF THE GAME:
3rd – Ryan Levine (2A)
2nd – Max (W, 1 GA)
1st – Dominic (2G)
