2nd Period:

Overtime:
GOO (4-3) – Rockoff (3) (unassisted) (4:16)

GAME NOTES: The first game of the day featured the Goonies, coming off a season opening loss to the CONDO’S, facing the 1-0 Cheetahs…after an opening shift which was all Cheetahs, the Goonies were able to turn around in transition and score as Caitlin fed Matt K in front for a short-side tap-in…with Cherie and Amitai waiting to get onto the bench and just 11 seconds left in the period, Riegler tied the game off a feed from Sully. Sully is playing D this season and now leads all defensemen in points on the year…Chris Snell put in his first of the season to put the Cheetahs ahead 2-1 late in the 2nd…from there, Rockoff put his beer down and went to work, scoring two goals in the third period, the second on a play where all five Goonies on the court touched the ball. Austin was able to tie the game with less than a minute left on a sweet deflection in front but in OT it was Rockoff again with a steal, breakaway and top-shelf backhander for the victory…Yetter had two secondary assists in addition to his primary. Unfortunately for anyone who bet on him for the scoring title, those do not count for stats Abut they do win him a 2nd star of the game which is something I guess…with the win, the Goonies get their first victory of the year and will look to keep it going next week against team Cup Size. The Cheetahs are now in 3rd place and will face a stiff test against the 1st place Green Street Hooligans.

THREE STARS OF THE GAME:
3rd – Sully (2A)
2nd – Yetter (1A)
1st – Rockoff (3G)

RONKONKOMA CONDO’S vs The Bayside Tigers

2nd Period:
RON (1-0) – Eli (2) (assisted by Q Train) (10:35)
RON (2-0) – Cheeky (2) (assisted by Hicks) (12:45)

GAME NOTES: A defensive struggle gave way to two late second period goals which, unfortunately for blue, would prove to be the difference in this one…the teams traded chances throughout the first, but Eitan and Casca were up to the taska. Sorry…a 2nd period powerplay was awarded when one of the Tigers used a broken stick to play the ball. Although no goal was scored on the PP, shortly after it was the Q Train getting the ball on a 2 on 1 and threading a perfect seam pass to Eli who buried it for his second goal of the season…just two minutes later, with time winding down, Hicks led a 2 on 1 and found a wide open Cheeky in front who roofed a shot over Eitan’s glove to put the Long Island homeowners up 2-0 going into the break…neither team could break through in the third period despite a plethora of chances for both sides…Eli now has two game winners in two games. Clearly all those rumors of being Tadpole’s secret father are motivating him to be a better goal scorer…Sena is the latest injury for the blue team but is expected to be back in action in 2-3 weeks…with the victory, the CONDO’S maintain their hold on 1st which they will look to expand next week against the suddenly reeling Monsters. The Tigers will look to rebound against a scrappy and quick Puffins squad.

THREE STARS OF THE GAME:
3rd – Cheeky (1G)
2nd – Eli (GWG)
1st – Zak Casca (W, SO)

Cleveland Monsters vs My Cup Size Is Stanley

1st Period:
CUP (1-0) – Tarnow (1) (assisted by Meg) (0:36)
CUP (2-0) – Justin (1) (unassisted) (11:41)
CUP (3-0) – Tarnow (2) (assisted by Becca) (12:51)
2nd Period:
CLE (1-3) – Tadpole Jack (1) (unassisted) (0:59)
CUP (4-1) – Justin (2) (assisted by Tarnow) (2:26)
CUP (5-1) – JRo (2) (assisted by Ariel) (4:45)
3rd Period:
CLE (2-5) – Tadpole Jack (2) (assisted by Brad) (3:50)

GAME NOTES: The third game of the evening saw Cup Size Stadium hosting the league favorite Cleveland Monsters…from the start Cup Size was on a mission, going directly at purple and trying to punch them in the mouth early. They were rewarded by a goal on the very first shift as Tarnow got a deflection in front to put them up 1-0…the score remained that way until late in the period when Justin scored off a turnover deep in the purple zone, then Tarnow buried his 2nd of the game when he was left alone in front with less than 10 seconds in the period. Just like that, it was 3-0 black…Tadpole Jack cut the lead to two with a bar-down quick release from the faceoff dots…Justin extended the lead to 4-1 just a minute and a half later, while JRo made it 5-1 when he got a breakaway from half-court in…Jack would add his second of the game in the 3rd period but unfortunately would not give the people the hat trick that they wanted. Cup Size takes it 5-2 and moves to .500 on the season. They will face the Goonies next week in a rematch of last season’s tightly contested final four matchup…the Monsters will look to get back on track next week as they take the LIRR into Ronkonkoma to face the first place CONDO’S.

THREE STARS OF THE GAME:
3rd – Tadpole Jack (2G)
2nd – Justin (2G)
1st – Tarnow (2G, 1A)

Stud Puffins vs Green Street Hooligans

1st Period:
GSH (1-0) – Probie (3) (assisted by Jake K) (11:46)
2nd Period:
GSH (2-0) – Jon Herman (1) (assisted by Tracy) (0:34)
3rd Period:
GSH (3-0) – Jon Herman (2) (assisted by Joe P) (6:51)
GSH (4-0) – Jon Herman (3) (unassisted) (7:50)
PUF (1-4) – Sweet Baby James (1) (unassisted) (9:01)

GAME NOTES: The Stud Puffins, after losing their season opener 2-0 to the Monsters, would look to rebound against an impressive green team, albeit without their goalie Jeff Green…the first period was scoreless until slightly a minute remained when Probie put in a tricky wrap around to give his team a 1-0 lead…from there, it was rookie and late round draft steal Jon Herman handling the offense as he put up a natural hat trick with three straight goals to put the Hooligans up 4-0…there was some controversy late in the third period when SBJ appeared to put his team on the board, but the call on the court was first no-goal. On video review, the call was overturned and a goal was awarded. Unfortunately for myself and Casca (as we both wanted a second look at the footage), but fortunately for conspiracy theorists everywhere, our camera man’s battery ran out before this game and the video for this game and the last was taken on an iPhone. Somehow most of the game video, including the disputed call, was lost…regardless, the Hooligans hung on for the victory while Casca was subbing so the shutout would not have counted on his official stats. If we acquire the video at a later date it will be posted on the site…Casca joined a select group of goalies who have notched two victories in one day. Meanwhile, Probie maintained his lead in the scoring race while Jon jumped to the top spot in the rookie scoring race…the Hooligans will face the 1-1 Cheetahs next week, while the Stud Puffins will play in the early game against the 0-2 Bayside Tigers.

THREE STARS OF THE GAME:
3rd – Zak Casca (W)
2nd – Probie (GWG)
1st – Jon Herman (3G)

Stud Puffins vs Cleveland Monsters

1st Period:
PUF (1-0) – Marcella (1) (assisted by Sweet Baby James) (2:43)
CLE (1-1) – Julie (1) (SH) (assisted by Blandi) (12:49)
2nd Period:
PUF (2-1) – Zach Fein (1) (PP) (assisted by Justin) (0:55)
PUF (3-1) – Sweet Baby James (2) (assisted by Adam Herman) (4:02)
PUF (4-1) – Marcella (2) (assisted by Sweet Baby James) (12:20)
3rd Period:
CLE (2-4) – Mike Warren (1) (assisted by Cleveland’s Favorite Daughter) (11:34)
CLE (3-4) – Hogg (1) (assisted by Julie) (11:45)
PUF (5-3) – Sweet Baby James (3) (EN) (assisted by Courtney) (12:45)

GAME NOTES: The final game of the evening saw a rematch of week 1 as the two new franchises finished the back-end of a home-and-home…purple shut orange out in week 1 but this week Marcella got the Puffins on the board early in the game as, just 2:43 in, she picked up her 2nd of the season on a feed from SBJ…Julie tied the game with just over 10 seconds left on a feed from Rob. It was her first of the season and the first shorthanded goal of the season league-wide…the Puffins blew the game open in the 2nd period as ChooChoo buried a power play goal on a third or fourth rebound (never a good sign), while SBJ buried a beautiful lead pass from third line superstar Adam Herman and then assisted on Marcella’s second of the game…after being repeatedly denied by Burke and the Puffins defense, the Monsters seemed to find their game late in the game as desperation time kicked in. Mike Warren, international hockey superstar, got them within two with just 1:26 left. Just 11 seconds later, Hogg scored his first of the season to put them within one. It was the quickest two goals scored by a team in league history, pending a review of old box scores which I’m too lazy to do at the moment…the Monsters had several chances to tie the game in the final minute but Tim Burke and the orange defense were up to the task. Sweet Baby James put the game away with a late empty netter…weird stat of the day: this night of hockey featured seven goals scored in the final minute of a period, and an additional four that took place in the final two minutes…SBJ had four points in this game, tying a career high he put up late last season…Marcella put up two goals and is tied for the lead among ladies in goals, although she is still behind Cheeky in points…the Puffins picked up a much-needed victory and are now in 5th place heading into a matchup with the Tigers next week. The Cleveland Monsters, preseason favorites to win it all, had a rough night that saw them fall all the way to 6th and will look to rebound next week against the first place CONDO’S.

THREE STARS OF THE GAME:
3rd – Julie (1G, 1A)
2nd – Marcella (2G)
1st – SBJ (2G, 2A)
