Notes: The Barrel have lost one game in regulation all season and it may surprise you to learn it was to the Orange Royals. Whether this was a case of meeting a hot team at the worst time or a stylistic matchup nightmare for Barrel, they will be looking for revenge tonight. Unfortunately Jack is out of town, they have no goalie and only one rostered girl showing up and Bob Housser of Team USA will be subbing in for Orange. This gives the Royals three legitimate all-world caliber players in him, Cherie and Tash and the firepower to bury anyone. The Barrel will get Andrea, Ryann and Dan Burns subbing for Kruger/Annie/Jack and Max in goal, but will it be enough to make up for a full strength Royals team augmented by a Team USA player? I have no idea but my inclination would be that it is not and to take the Royals to pick up an incredible 2nd regulation win of the season over the first place Barrel. In any case, this is not just the McQuade special of the night but possibly the McQuadiest Special that will ever happen. Complete and total gamble. Degens welcome.

Notes: The Hyenas will look to pick up their first victory of the season as they head into the Hippodome/Hippound/whatever it’s called to face the Hippos. The weekly goalie roulette wheel spins on for yellow as Zisser jumps in net for them in exchange for 2 grams of mystery drugs and a half-eaten box of Keebler cookies while Abby subs in for LJ, compensation TBD. The Hyenas, for perhaps the first time this season, have not asked me for any subs at all which means they should have most of their roster in for this game. Standings-wise these are the bottom two teams but all it takes is a couple wins and either one could make a run at the #4 seed. These are two of the three lowest scoring teams in the league, despite the presence of guys like Braun and Hicks (RIP Josis), so I’m expecting a higher scoring game than usual in this one. Hyenas game have been averaging over 9 goals per game while Hippos game are under 7…I’m taking the over in this one and bribing the refs to count one of Metz’s signature crossbars as a goal this time around.

Notes: By virtue of playing only one game in the entire month of September (for comparison, Barrel played five), The Goaldiggers will open up their doubleheader against Cup Size. Word just scrolled across the ticker that ScottyK is a late scratch in this one but otherwise Cup Size should have most of their heavy hitters. Similarly, the Diggers have not asked me for any sort of subs yet which leads me to assume they have their full roster. Cup Size has been shaky so far this season but the last two weeks have their arrow pointing up with a win over the Hooligans and a tight shootout loss to the Royals. Max will be warmed up and no doubt eager to face the current GAA leader Casca but the biggest problems for Cup Size will be the Guido/Tarnow unit up front and the Andrea/Izzy rotation on the back-end. Brad and Joe will do their best to neutralize the white team’s offense but the last minute absence of ScottyK definitely swings the line decidedly in white’s favor. Bet on the Goaldiggers to win this one in regulation.

Notes: The Hooligans have been on a bit of a losing streak lately with 3 losses in their past 5 games and 4 in their last 6. Tonight they will be without Charlotte, Seb and Eric but will get Probert’s coworker who I have no idea how good. he is, what he looks like or even if he’s a real person. Goaldiggers will be playing their 2nd game of the back to back which, statistically, hasn’t had much of an effect on teams because this league is jam packed with elite athletes. Charlotte and Seb are huge losses to take against a Goaldiggers team that’s 2nd in points-per-game; Probie & AK will do their best to match Guido & Tarnow in points but without their top defenders, I’m not sure how well they stack up. This is a borderline McQuader but since that was already used in the mother of all McQuades (to be referred to as “McQuade’s mom” in future writeups), I’m backing the Diggers to pick up a victory and jump into the #2 seed by the end of the evening.
