Hungry Hippos vs Chosen 1s
2nd Period:
HIP (1-0) – Hicks (2) (assisted by Ariel) (4:16)
CHO (1-1) – Jeff (2) (unassisted) (7:25)
HIP (2-1) – Jack (1) (unassisted) (10:20)
3rd Period:
CHO (2-2) – Jeff (3) (unassisted) (4:45)
Overtime:
CHO (3-2) – Brad (2) (unassisted) (4:45)
GAME NOTES: The first game of the night saw Rich, Jeff and the Chosen 1s face off against Hicks and the Hippos…after a scoreless first, Hicks got the scoring going early in the 2nd off a feed from Ariel. Jeff tied it up shortly after before Jack put the Hippos back up just before the end of the period…Jeff was a man possessed throughout this game and he knotted the score around midway through the third. From there, both teams played strong defense to force OT…in OT, a giveaway behind the Hippos net led to Brad wrapping it around for the overtime goal and a Chosen 1s victory…before this season Brad had not scored a goal since July. He now has two goals in two games to lead all defensemen. Sadly you all fucked up by not betting on him before the season for the Leetch Award…with the win, the Chosen 1s bounce back from a tough week 1 loss and will face the undefeated Goonies in week 3. The Hippos will look to pick up their first win of the season against the 1-1 Cheetahs.
THREE STARS OF THE GAME:
3rd – Hicks (1G)
2nd – Brad (GWG)
1st – Jeff (2G)
Purple Parrots vs Rainy Day Kids Club
1st Period:
PAR (1-0) – Stu (1) (assisted by Mike Tarnow) (6:17)
KID (1-1) – Matt Stabel (1) (assisted by Scott Metz) (8:05)
2nd Period:
PAR (2-1) – David Karp (1) (assisted by Tracy) (0:20)
GAME NOTES: With Tim Burke out for a rare game off, it was Zisser filling in in relief for the Kids Club against goaltending leader Campbell and the Parrots…Ocean City (and Buffalo Sabres) legend Stu Barnes got the scoring started midway through the first. He almost picked up a 2nd goal in the 2nd period but was called for an insanely high windup, and added a penalty later in the frame just for good measure…Matt Stabel picked up his 1st of the season on a top shelf snipe after a great pass from Long Island legend Scott Metz…Black Squirrels veteran David Karp put the team up for good early in the 2nd. League Webmaster Tracy picked up her 1st point of the season with an assist on the goal…as usual, Campbell and the Parrots battoned down the hatches at the end of the game to preserve the one goal lead. The league bookmaking department may need to significantly lower over/unders for future games because this team is basically the 1996 Florida Panthers right now…with the win, the Parrots move into first place for the first time in franchise history. They’ll look to keep rolling next week against Cup Size. The Kids Club will be searching for their first win of the year against Winter Is Coming (aka Team Coming).
THREE STARS OF THE GAME:
3rd – Stu (1 Real Goal, 1 Fake Goal)
2nd – David Karp (GWG)
1st – Campbell (W)
The Charging Cheetahs vs My Cup Size Is Stanley
3rd Period:
CHA (1-0) – Marcella (1) (assisted by Sweet Baby James) (2:20)
CHA (2-0) – Leonidas (1) (SH) (EN) (assisted by Rockoff) (12:12)
CUP (1-2) – Jake Reznick (1) (assisted by DRo) (12:25)
GAME NOTES: The Cheetahs pulled out a gutsy win with perhaps the upset of the day against a Cup Size team that had been favored by most pundits before the season. They were, however, missing #1 overall pick Gabe…two scoreless periods saw a goalie duel between Cup Size goalie Zak Casca and Cheetahs sub Scott Heese. Heese was the goalie of record for Ball That last season but is moving back to the west coast in a month and is a sub for the Spring season…free agent extraordinaire Marcella broke the scoreless deadlock early in the 3rd period with a trademark rebound goal in front. Leonidas added the first shorthander (and the first empty netter) of the season to give the Cheetahs a two goal lead with 48 seconds available…just 13 seconds after that, free agent Jake Resnick scored for Cup Size to give them some hope and strike fear in the hearts of everyone who wondered how late games were going to run this week if we had to go to another overtime. Thankfully for everyone except Jenn’s team, no overtime was necessary…so impressed by his late goal was Jenn that she immediately signed Jake to a contract with the Demons. No word on how many slashes he has to dole out each week as part of the deal…with the win, the Cheetahs move to .500 and face their fellow original six team, the Hippos, in week 3. My Cup Size Is Stanley will look to lick their wounds and get Gabe back in time for this week’s primetime showdown against Campbell and the Parrots.
THREE STARS OF THE GAME:
3rd – Zak Casca (1 GA)
2nd – Sweet Baby James (1A)
1st – Marcella (1G)
Goonies vs Winter Is Coming
1st Period:
WIN (1-0) – Luke (3) (assisted by Nico) (0:14)
GOO (1-1) – Rob Meehan (2) (assisted by Derek) (4:02)
GOO (2-1) – Derek (1) (assisted by Ebenezer) (8:15)
WIN (2-2) – Ryan McManus (1) (assisted by Luke) (12:45)
Overtime:
GOO (3-2) – Derek (2) (unassisted) (0:43)
GAME NOTES: The primetime game saw two of the top teams in the league face off with two of the suavest goalies in New York between the pipes…Luke got the scoring started just 14 seconds into the game when he sliced through the Goonies’ defense and buried one past longtime Wednesday night nemesis Corey Blay…Rob tied the score shortly after on a feed from Derek who then put his team ahead with a lightning-quick release from the high slot…with just 15 seconds left in the 1st, D5 rookie defenseman Ryan buried his first goal on a point shot…late in the third controversy erupted when Luke was high-sticked, drawing a good deal of blood, but only a two minute minor was called instead of the four that would have been doled out in basically every other hockey league on the planet (except BTSH which would have just called for an inbound and a social media scolding)…after a brief overtime power-play didn’t lead to much in the way of offense, Alex committed a pretty bad giveaway in the neutral zone which led to a Derek breakaway goal…with the OT win, the Goonies move to 2nd place and will face Jeff, Brad and the Chosen 1s in week 3. Winter Is Coming sits in 3rd place and will face the winless Rainy Day Kids Club in Tuesday’s early game.
THREE STARS OF THE GAME:
3rd – Cherie (Quality D)
2nd – Luke (1G, 1A)
1st – Derek (2G, 1A)
