GAME NOTES:  The opening game of the evening saw the Hooligans, sans Probie and Joey Bats, facing off against a JRo-less Cup Size squad…early on, black dominated this contest in possession with Ariel creating a ton of opportunities every time he was out there. They were finally rewarded late in the period when Meg scored a somewhat fluky goal which deflected off a defender and into the net…Ariel gave Cup Size a 2-0 lead midway through the 2nd and it looked like green’s win streak may come to an end on this Friday evening. However, just a few minutes later, Guido got the Hooligans on the board and the league’s webmaster, Tracy, followed that up with a rebound goal with just over two minutes left to knot the game at 2 going into the 2nd intermission…Pags buried his 3rd goal of the week with just under three minutes left in the game to give the Hooligans a 3-2 lead that it seemed would give them the victory. Black pulled the goalie, however, and tied it up with 39 seconds left on a diving effort from Meg…four minutes into the OT, Tarnow and Metz had a mini 2 on 0 that ended with a huge save from Jeff Green. The action went back the other way where Andrea got a breakaway and went five-hole for the victory, keeping the Hooligans undefeated on the season…Ariel, Tarnow and Meg each had two points for Cup Size while six different players notched a point for green…Tracy’s goal was the first of her D5 career…the three point effort moved Pags into the top 15 in scoring despite missing the first several games of the season…with the victory, the Hooligans tighten their stranglehold on first. Cup Size would remain in 7th ahead of only the Bayside Tigers.

THREE STARS OF THE GAME:
3rd – Meg (2G)
2nd – Mike Pags (1G, 2A)
1st – Andrea (GWG)

The Bayside Tigers vs Cleveland Monsters

2nd Period:
BAY (1-0) – AFrey (1) (unassisted) (1:29)
CLE (1-1) – Matt Russo (2) (assisted by “Nasty” Nate Lerner) (8:19)
Overtime:
BAY (2-1) – Mike T (1) (assisted by Danny Swersky) (0:28)

GAME NOTES:  The second game of the night saw the Tigers of Bayside facing off against the Monsters from Cleveland. Jeff “Wild Card” Green would be making a relief appearance for Zisser while Mike T played the role of Gabe, minus the accent…after a scoreless first period featuring a number of saves by Jeff and Eitan, Alex got the scoring started when he stole the ball from Russo, came in down the right wing and broke towards the middle to tuck the ball inside the far post for the 1-0 lead…Russo would find redemption later in the period when he broke in and buried a shot bar-down. The footage didn’t capture it fully so you’ll have to take my word for it…both teams played suffocating defense in the third period to force overtime. Hogg almost ended the game early in the extra frame on a play from behind the net but just missed and Mike T was able to take it the other way and score a highlight reel breakaway goal to give Bayside their second win in a row…after missing the first month of the season Charlotte Nicholson made her D5 debut in this game, and celebrated by getting her stick destroyed in the 3rd period…the Monsters would go on to face the 3rd place Goonies in their next game while the Tigers would have a quick turnaround before facing the 1st place Hooligans on Tuesday the 16th.

THREE STARS OF THE GAME:
3rd – AFrey (1G)
2nd – Eitan The Goalie (1 GA)
1st – Mike T (GWG)

Stud Puffins vs The Charging Cheetahs

2nd Period:
CHA (1-0) – Jake Braun (3) (assisted by Carlin) (0:56)
PUF (1-1) – Ramy (1) (assisted by Marcella) (4:23)
PUF (2-1) – Pete D’Angelo (1) (assisted by Shoni) (5:43)
CHA (2-2) – Derek (1) (assisted by Chris Snell) (6:42)
CHA (3-2) – Jake Braun (4) (unassisted) (8:27)
CHA (4-2) – Chris Snell (2) (assisted by Derek) (11:44)
3rd Period:
CHA (5-2) – Jo-Ann (1) (assisted by Jake Braun) (8:48)
CHA (6-2) – Jake Braun (5) (assisted by Carlin) (9:19)
CHA (7-2) – Austin (4) (SH) (Penalty Shot)

GAME NOTES:  A game which was listed as a virtual toss-up in the pregame lines ended up being a surprising blowout…after a scoreless 1st period, the 2nd saw an absurd six goals scored, three of which came within a two and a half minute span…Pete D’Angelo, making his D5 return after a gruesome knee injury in the Fall ’18 season (he did make it back for a playoff game that year), scored to briefly put the Puffins ahead 2-1 midway through the 2nd. Unfortunately he got injured at BTSH the following Sunday so we may not see him back for a bit. Feel better Pete!…Jake Braun played like a guy who really wants to get hazed at this Saturday’s rookie party (more info forthcoming on that one) as he put up a hat trick, with the goals increasing in difficulty. The first one seemed to be totally by accident, the second one was pretty nice, and the third was a total snipe. The 77th street apartment of degenerates is going for an unprecedented third straight rookie of the year award…Jo-Ann scored her first of the season when she found a soft spot in coverage and one-timed a pass across from Braun. Man, that guy really does it all…after our second thrown stick in two weeks (entertaining but very much against the rules), the Cheetahs tapped another soon-to-be-hazed rookie, Austin, to take the penalty shot and he did some Patrick Kane shit to give red the 7-2 lead…the Cheetahs remain the toughest team to predict in the league as three days after getting walloped by the similarly mercurial Monsters 6-2, they smack down the Puffins 7-2. They remain locked in a battle for the 4th seed and consequent first round bye with the Puffins and pretty much all the teams below them (yay parity!).

THREE STARS OF THE GAME:
3rd – Dave GDR (2 GA)
2nd – Carlin (2A)
1st – Jake Braun (3G, 1A)

Goonies vs RONKONKOMA CONDO’S

1st Period:
GOO (1-0) – Jason (1) (assisted by Sean Mullane) (3:23)
2nd Period:
RON (1-1) – Hicks (5) (assisted by Mike T) (11:52)
3rd Period:
GOO (2-1) – Mike Ronson (1) (SH) (assisted by Austin Lyons) (1:20)
RON (2-2) – Akhil (1) (assisted by Chris Fullam) (10:36)
RON (3-2) – Creed (2) (PP) (assisted by Hicks) (12:30)
GOO (3-3) – Ben McCloskey (1) (assisted by Sean Mullane) (12:48)
Overtime:
RON (4-3) – Mike T (2) (SH) (assisted by Hicks) (4:27)

GAME NOTES:  The final game of the evening was a surprisingly chippy affair between last season’s championship franchises, the Goonies and the now-rebranded CONDO’S…Jason got the scoring started early in the first when he took a sweet dish from Mullane and one-timed it past Eitan. Unfortunately, as seemed to be a theme on this night, he would injure his thumb later in the evening and is out for a few more weeks. Feel better Jason (even though I’m 100% sure you’re not reading these recaps)…Hicks tied the game with just over a minute left in the second…in the third, the action ramped up along with the intensity and the stress on the referees. After a beautiful shorty by the Goonies’ Mofo taxi squad, the game remained tied until there were two and a half minutes left, at which point all hell broke loose. A barrage of penalties and plays that could have been called penalties ended with the CONDO’S getting a power play with 34 seconds left. They won the faceoff right to Creed, a grown ass man, who unleashed a slapshot that almost destroyed the crossbar and gave the CONDO’S the lead. The Goonies pulled the goalie on the ensuing faceoff and a Mullane point shot that was going wide somehow went off the foot of Nurse Dangles right to Ben who threw it in to kick off a raucous celebration as the game was tied heading to OT…both teams had their chances in OT, with the Goonies getting a slight edge in possession. The physical play continued to the point that I hated my life even more than usual. Late in the frame Creed was called for a penalty, allowing the Goonies to pull an extra guy off the bench to make it a 4 on 3. Unfortunately, after a bunch of chances on the PP, a pass to Buck resulted in a non-contact injury to her (feel better!) and the CONDO’S took it the other way for a shorthanded 2 on 1. Mike passed it to Hicks, Hicks passed it back and Mike buried it to give the CONDO’S a hard fought win in one of the most entertaining, but also most annoying, games of the season…Mike T becomes the first player in league history to score two OT winners on the same night…with the victory, the CONDO’S maintain their hold on 2nd place and the ever important double-bye directly into the final four. The Goonies remain in third and would look to rebound the following Tuesday against the Monsters.

THREE STARS OF THE GAME:
3rd – Sean Mullane (2A)
2nd – Mike T (GWG, A)
1st – Hicks (1G, 2A)
