Big Deke Energy vs Red Eyed Peas
2nd Period:
RED (1-0) – Matt Lewis (1) (assisted by Cole) (1:42)
RED (2-0) – Campbell (1) (assisted by Tarnow) (13:59)
3rd Period:
BDE (1-2) – Shan (1) (assisted by Ryan Levine) (1:55)
RED (3-1) – Cara (1) (unassisted) (3:37)
BDE (2-3) – Mike Pelletier (1) (unassisted) (12:38)
BDE (3-3) – Ryan Levine (1) (assisted by Mikey) (13:44)
Overtime:
RED (4-3) – Cara (2) (unassisted) (1:10)
GAME NOTES: Red was picked by most to lose this game but led throughout. Yellow was able to score two goals in the final two minutes with the goalie pulled to force OT but Cara got loose for a breakaway and pretty much everyone knew that was going to be all she wrote. A highly impressive season opening victory for the latest iteration of Nate’s hockey school…seeing as a man had a heart attack on Cam’s train which caused him to be late (I wouldn’t have believed it if he hadn’t sent me footage of it, which was horrifying), Campbell started the game in net with zero goalie equipment and surprisingly (or unsurprisingly, if you know Campbell) let up zero goals in seven minutes of action. Truly impressive work.
THREE STARS OF THE GAME:
3rd – Campbell (1G, 2 Saves)
2nd – Ryan Levine (1G, 1A)
1st – Cara (2G)
On Tuesdays We Wear Pink vs Big Deke Energy
1st Period:
BDE (1-0) – Mikey (1) (unassisted) (7:35)
BDE (2-0) – Joe Magosin (1) (unassisted) (11:41)
2nd Period
PNK (1-2) – Justin McNeil (1) (assisted by Mo) (4:11)
BDE (3-1) – Dom (1) (PP) (assisted by Mike Pelletier) (10:37)
3rd Period:
BDE (4-1) – Mike Pelletier (2) (assisted by Mel) (4:37)
PNK (2-4) – Jake Kolenberg (1) (assisted by Stern) (8:16)
BDE (5-2) – Dom (2) (EN) (assisted by Mike Pelletier) (12:00)
PNK (3-5) – Steve Rys (1) (unassisted) (12:38)
GAME NOTES: MelRose pretty much dominated this game start to finish as pink was suffering a number of absences including 1st round pick Jo Robin. They did well to make it a game and keep it close but the final result was a fairly predictable 5-3 victory by the revamped yellow team. And by revamped all they really did was ditch DRo. So rude.
THREE STARS OF THE GAME:
3rd – Dom (2G)
2nd – Mike Pelletier (1G, 1A)
1st – Mikey (1G, 1A)
Jewish Golden Calfs vs Bluebies
2nd Period
BLU (1-0) – Brad (1) (unassisted) (11:00)
3rd Period:
BLU (2-0) – Brad (2) (unassisted) (1:35)
JGC (1-2) – Tommy Covelli (1) (assisted by Julie) (3:41)
BLU (3-1) – Chad (1) (unassisted) (6:11)
BLU (4-1) – Brita (1) (assisted by Brett Marks) (7:53)
BLU (5-1) – Andrew (1) (SH) (EN) (assisted by Emily) (13:39)
GAME NOTES: This game was expected by many to be a blowout as blue came in at #1 in the preseason power ranks while gold came in last. I did not feel that way, however, and this game was a 0-0 deadlock late in the 2nd period before blue was able to break through. After that it was an onslaught of five goals (including an empty netter) in the final 16 minutes for a season opening 5-1 win over a very solid Golden Calfs team.
THREE STARS OF THE GAME:
3rd – Zisser (W, 1 GA)
2nd – Brita (1G)
1st – Brad (2G)
Jewish Golden Calfs vs Shooting Blancs
1st Period:
JGC (1-0) – Aryeh Minsky (1) (assisted by Jake Chaplin) (0:07)
2nd Period
JGC (2-0) – DRo (1) (assisted by Aryeh Minsky) (1:29)
3rd Period:
BLNC (1-2) – Adam Satok (1) (assisted by Brendan) (3:15)
BLNC (2-2) – Adam Satok (1) (assisted by Tom White) (7:58)
JGC (3-2) – Aryeh Minsky (1) (assisted by Jake Chaplin) (12:58)
GAME NOTES: As with the previous game, there was not much public faith in gold outside of myself and in fact there were requests for supermax bets on white moneyline before the game. Minsky made sure to reward our faith (our being the league sportsbook) in the most Jewish team this side of the Mensches with a goal off the opening faceoff and a goal with just over a minute left to give the Golden Calfs a 3-2 win and put them back at .500…Chaplin added two assists in an early case for rookie of the year while Satok picked up both goals for white as he defends his scoring title from last season.
THREE STARS OF THE GAME:
3rd – Adam Satok (2G)
2nd – Jake Chaplin (2A)
1st – Aryeh Minsky (2G, 1A)
Bluebies vs 96th Street Bastards
1st Period:
BLU (1-0) – Chad (2) (assisted by Brett Marks) (1:33)
BST (1-1) – Mike Pigozzi (1) (unassisted) (10:07)
BST (2-1) – Hicks (1) (assisted by Peter) (11:06)
2nd Period
BLU (2-2) – Sam (1) (PP) (unassisted) (2:56)
BLU (3-2) – Chad (3) (assisted by Andrew) (5:57)
BLU (4-2) – Brita (2) (assisted by Brad) (10:57)
BLU (5-2) – Ashkon (1) (assisted by Sam) (13:43)
3rd Period:
BST (3-5) – Joe (1) (assisted by Jason Campbell) (12:08)
BLU (6-3) – Brett (1) (EN) (assisted by Brad) (13:44)
GAME NOTES: This was the first game of the season to feature a puckline (blue -2.0 goals) and although one of the Bastards told me he wanted to hammer +2, he did not, which turned out to be a great decision because he would have gotten a tough beat on this one. Black led 2-1 after the first period but blue stormed back with a four goal 2nd and added a late empty netter for a 6-3 win. Brad continues to be one of the great 8th round picks in league history with two assists to add to his two goals in the first game while Sam only got two points but dominated from defense, Chad had two goals, Brita picked up her 2nd of the season and Ellie showed up drunk.
THREE STARS OF THE GAME:
3rd – Brad (2A)
2nd – Chad (2G)
1st – Sam (1G, 1A)
Merry Pranksters vs 96th Street Bastards
1st Period:
PRK (1-0) – Tom Fitz (1) (assisted by Brooke) (9:43)
3rd Period:
PRK (2-0) – Sam Gelman (1) (unassisted) (5:41)
BST (1-2) – Peter (1) (assisted by Jason Campbell) (9:55)
PRK (3-1) – Brooke (1) (assisted by Sam Gelman) (9:43)
PRK (4-1) – Sam Gelman (2) (PP) (unassisted) (12:32)
GAME NOTES: For the 2nd season in a row I picked the Pranksters to suck and for the 2nd season in a row they’ve gotten off to a hot start. Tie dye looked great in this game with speed and depth and although black played a very strong game and possibly deserved a better result, Gelman picked up three points, rookie Brooke (possibly heretofore known as Brookie Rookie) picked up a goal and an assist and the Pranksters cruised to a 4-1 win in their Fall opener.
THREE STARS OF THE GAME:
3rd – Cam (W, 1 GA)
2nd – Brooke (1G, 1A)
1st – Sam Gelman (2G, 1A)

Merry Pranksters vs Bada Bing
2nd Period
PRK (1-0) – Sam Gelman (3) (assisted by Tom Fitz) (1:19)
3rd Period:
BING (1-1) – Jack (1) (assisted by Annie) (0:34)
PRK (2-1) – Sam Gelman (4) (assisted by Ari) (2:55)
PRK (3-1) – Sam Gelman (5) (assisted by Tom Fitz) (6:49)
PRK (4-1) – Brooke (2) (assisted by Manny Jurado) (11:53)
PRK (5-1) – Sam Gelman (6) (assisted by Steph) (12:51)
GAME NOTES: The first game of the season for the first D5 team to be named after the strip club from the Sopranos (really elite stuff here) was also the banner raising for purple and Jack’s return to the franchise he took over in Fall 2019 only to hand the reigns to Annie last season. It was a beautiful ceremony that went completely off the rails in the 3rd period. A game that was scoreless after one and just 1-0 after two exploded in the 3rd period as Jack tied the game on the first shift before the Pranksters buried four unanswered for the 5-1 victory. Gelman could later be seen in the back of the Bing getting roughed up by Russo and Nestor. At least that’s what he told us he was doing there…fun fact: I grew up about 15 minutes from the actual site of that strip club, Satin Dolls in Lodi. Classy place.
THREE STARS OF THE GAME:
3rd – Brooke (1G)
2nd – Tom Fitz (2A)
1st – Sam Gelman (4G)
Red Eyed Peas vs Bada Bing
1st Period:
BING (1-0) – Annie (1) (assisted by Jack) (12:52)
2nd Period
RED (1-1) – Matt Lewis (1) (unassisted) (6:50)
RED (2-1) – Tarnow (1) (assisted by Matt Lewis) (7:56)
RED (3-1) – Chris Fullam (1) (assisted by Cherie) (11:35)
3rd Period:
RED (4-1) – Cara (3) (unassisted) (4:20)
RED (5-1) – Cara (4) (PP) (unassisted) (13:10)
GAME NOTES: This game started out much better for purple than the previous one. Unfortunately, it ended the exact same way: a 5-1 loss and Zisser thinking about strippers. To be fair, he does that after wins too.
THREE STARS OF THE GAME:
3rd – Tarnow (GWG)
2nd – Cherie (1G, 1A)
1st – Cara (2G)
Merry Pranksters vs Shooting Blancs

PRK (2-0) – Ari (1) (assisted by Joel) (10:01)
2nd Period
PRK (3-0) – Tom Fitz (2) (unassisted) (2:09)
BLNC (1-3) – Tom McGuire (3) (assisted by Adam Satok) (7:54)
BLNC (2-3) – Tom McGuire (3) (assisted by Adam Satok) (13:41)
3rd Period:
BLNC (3-3) – Adam Satok (2) (assisted by Tom McGuire) (1:13)
PRK (4-3) –Tom Fitz (3) (unassisted) (2:18)
BLNC (4-4) – Tom White (2) (assisted by Tom McGuire) (3:33)
BLNC (5-4) – Tom McGuire (3) (assisted by Simon) (12:30)
GAME NOTES: Pranks and Blancs. I’m not sure why it took me a full season to think of that re: this matchup…this was actually an electric game which saw the Pranksters jump out to an early lead only for Tom McGuire to go nuclear and pick up five points in the final half of the game. White was picked by many to be a top team this season and they showed why here. 5-4 comeback win for the Blancs. Rouge Bar going nuts.
THREE STARS OF THE GAME:
3rd – Adam Satok (1G, 1A)
2nd – Tom Fitz (2G, 1A)
1st – Tom McGuire (3G, 2A)
Shooting Blancs vs Red Eyed Peas
1st Period:
RED (1-0) – Campbell (2) (assisted by Jacob Herbers) (2:18)
RED (2-0) – Campbell (3) (assisted by Tarnow) (9:49)
BLNC (1-2) – Tom McGuire (4) (assisted by Adam Satok) (13:55)
2nd Period
BLNC (2-2) – Brendan Moshensky (1) (assisted by Gabe Silverman) (6:20)
3rd Period:
BLNC (3-2) – Simon (1) (unassisted) (9:57)
RED (3-3) – Cherie (1) (assisted by Matt Lewis) (10:30)
RED (4-3) – Cara (5) (assisted by Nate) (12:43)
GAME NOTES: As with the previous game, white came back from an early multi-goal deficit to lead late. Unlike with the previous game, they could not hold on as red picked up two goals in the final three and a half minutes to stay unbeaten on the season…Cara is currently 2nd in the league in goals and has a real chance to become the first lady to ever win the scoring title. I guess we can’t call Nate sexist anymore. No wait, we still can.
THREE STARS OF THE GAME:
3rd – Cherie (1G)
2nd – Cara (GWG)
1st – Campbell (2G)

Shootout Winner By Hicks
GAME NOTES: This game was played 4v4 and, after a scoreless first, exploded with four in each of the remaining periods . Then we went to a shootout because it’s the last game on a five game Friday and god doesn’t want us to be happy. And because black erased a late two goal deficit to force OT, then picked up their first W of the season in said shootout. Kolenberg now buying up all the cakes in New York in an attempt to reach Jo Robin. Hicks just buying meat.
THREE STARS OF THE GAME:
3rd – Steve Rys (2G)
2nd – Stern (2G, 1A)
1st – Hicks (2G, SOW)
